Novice Skipper Award

In 2007, the races known as the Westrum's Cup became the Dee O'Neal Cup. In these races, novices have the opportunity to take the helm, with an experienced racer aboard as coach.


In 1958, Dee O'Neal bought his first D boat (Student Driver) and joined LHYC with his family. After many seasons of racing, Dee switched to judging. He served as Head Judge for many years until he retired from judging in 2003. After fifty years of service to LHYC, Commodore Dee passed away in 2010.
