Lake Harriet Yacht Club is a non-profit corporation formed in 1947 to promote sailboat racing on Lake Harriet. Currently the Club conducts races for Melges 15s, MC Scows, 420s, and Optimists. The Adaptive program has monthly races in modified Illusion 12s.
Races are held from May through September on Wednesday evenings, Saturday afternoons, Sunday mornings, and Holiday mornings (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day.)
Other Club activities include a fall regatta, Youth Sailing, Adaptive Sailing and racing seminars. The Club also sponsors year-round social events.
BOAT OWNERSHIP & AVAILABILITY
The racing fleets (Melges 15s and MC scows) are privately owned by club members. Our Youth Sailing (Optimists and 420s) and Adaptive Sailing (Mini Illusions) programs have shared club-owned boats for LHYC member use. Boat ownership is not required for Sailor and Social Memberships.
