LHYC/TCSC SailX Party 2

  • 03/04/2015
  • 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • CallaBerg Conference Center - 3828 Garfield Ave S, 55409

You are invited to the second Lake Harriet SailX party on March 4!

What is SailX? SailX is the “World’s Best Inshore” Sailboat Racing Simulator, winner of US Sailing’s “One Design Creativity Award” for “outstanding creativity and contribution in the year’s most innovative one-design event of national or international significance,”

SailX allows users to compete against sailors from all over the world 24 hours a day. Sailors choose from four classes of boats: Laser, Cat, Viper, 420, or keelboat. Races last about 5-10 minutes, which allows for many starts and races. With realistic wind shifts and puffs and accurate application of the racing rules, SailX allows you to race even in our cold winter months. Several LHYC sailors have already tried SailX and are hooked (Charlie Gantzer, Judson Koehn, Robert Netzer, John Berg, Andy Crowe, Jason Curtis, and Joe Fricton). Now is the time for you to experience this exciting brand of virtual sailboat racing.

So here are the details on the Lake Harriet SailX party:

Date: March 4,

Time: 6:00 to 9:00 pm

Location: CallaBerg Conference Center - 3828 Garfield Ave S, 55409

What to Bring: Your laptop to play sailx and BYOB and bring $5 or more cash for pizza.

PLEASE RSVP by emailing Joe Fricton, josiahfricton@yahoo.com

Before March 4, there are a couple steps that you must do.

1.  Register on www.sailx.com.

2.  Do the full tutorial on sailx.com. There is a slight learning curve to the sailx controls, and it is imperative to learn boat handling before our SailX party.

3.  Email Joe Fricton, josiahfricton@yahoo.com, so he can invite you to the LHYC group page.

4.  Practice, Practice, Practice. Spend an hour or two on SailX getting used to the controls and the racing environment.

Here is the plan for the 3/4 SailX party:

  • Bring your laptop, which you will need to play SailX.
  • We will be enjoying adult beverages, so please BYOB.
  • We will start the evening with a brief tutorial and introduction to the event.
  • Then two SailX experts will walk around helping people with controls and aspects of racing.
  • We will be racing in our own private LHYC race, so we won’t be dealing with any world champions.
  • At the end of the night we will sail a 4 race regatta to determine the champion SailX racer for the night.

See you there!
